Game of Thrones Il grande inverno è un romanzo fantasy del 1996 dello scrittore statunitense George Raymond Richard Martin, seconda parte del primo libro - A Game of Thrones (Il gioco dei troni) - della saga delle Cronache del ghiaccio e del fuoco. A Game of Thrones nel 1997 è stato nominato per il Premio Nebula e il Premio World Fantasy, ed ha vinto il Premio Locus. Il romanzo breve Sangue di drago, che consiste in un estratto dei capitoli che coinvolgono Daenerys, ha vinto nel 1997 il Premio Hugo come Miglior romanzo breve (Novella). Dal 17 aprile 2011 viene trasmessa su HBO una trasposizione televisiva del ciclo di romanzi, Il Trono di Spade. La prima stagione della serie è basata sul primo romanzo, di cui Il grande inverno costituisce la seconda parte. Il Trono di Spade (Game of Thrones) è una serie televisiva statunitense prodotta e trasmessa da HBO a partire dal 17 aprile 2011, nata come trasposizione televisiva del ciclo di romanzi fantasy Cronache del ghiaccio e del fuoco (A Song of Ice and Fire) di George R. R. Martin. La prima stagione è basata sul primo romanzo della collana, A Game of Thrones, che in Italia è stato pubblicato da Mondadori in due volumi, Il Trono di Spade e Il grande inverno. La serie è stata rinnovata per una seconda stagione, che verrà trasmessa a partire dal 1º aprile 2012. In Italia la prima stagione è stata trasmessa su Sky Cinema 1 dall'11 novembre al 9 dicembre 2011; la seconda stagione andrà in onda sullo stesso canale a partire da maggio 2012.
